CyberDog 2: Boston Dynamics Challenger

The robotics technology sector has been a developing sector with Boston Dynamics dominating the headlines showcasing their advancements via Atlas and Spot. Xiaomi has developed its successor to the CyberDog. The CyberDog 2 now has more of a canine profile reassembling a Doberman in both the shape of its head and its gait.

What Can the CyberDog 2 Do?

The CyberDog 2 is full of tricks such as performing backflips and press-ups but the CyberDog 2 can also change its colour with the integration of E Ink technology. The CyberDog 2 uses external displays on its body that can dynamically change colour based on its actions.

The CyberDog 2 is powered by an NX chip and dual co-processing brains supported by 8GB RAM and 16GB storage to process the information from its 19 sensors. Sensors include four microphones with AI voice recognition, a RealSense depth camera plus AI, RGB and fisheye cameras, a ToF sensor and a laser sensor. The robotic dog comes with Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi that enables the CyberDog 2 to be controlled by a Bluetooth remote, smartphone or by voice.

CyberDog 2 runs Ubuntu and ROS2 with the platform made open source to attract developers to further develop its capabilities. The internal battery is estimated to have a run time of 90 minutes before a recharge is needed over USB-C.
