Retro Gadget: Nokia 3310

Released in 2000, the Nokia 3310 is an iconic phone with a reputation of being indestructible and a long-lasting battery life. When the Nokia 3310 first launched, it was priced at £129.99. You can get several smartphones cheaper nowadays, with 4G and Wi-Fi features that the Nokia 3310 did not come with.

Design

The original Nokia 3310 was viewed as impressively compact, measuring at 113 x 48 x 22mm and weighing in at 133g. The design allowed the user to operate the phone in one hand whereas most modern smartphones require a two-hand operation. The solid build quality and the thickness made the phone gain a reputation of being indestructible and being able to last for many years.

Display

The display built into the Nokia 3310 was a monochrome display with a resolution of 84 x 84 when compared to a resolution such as that of the iPhone 11 Pro, which has a resolution of 2436 x 1125, rendering the Nokia 3310 laughable.

Battery

Another reputation that the Nokia 3310 had was its extremely long battery. The handset features a 900mAh battery allowing 11 days of standby. Today’s smartphone only lasts a whole day until it needs to be connected to the mains to be recharged.

Other features

A lot of people remember creating their ringtones on the Nokia 3310 and sharing them between their peers and the most famous game in phone history was Snake. Playing Snake on the monochrome screen and having endless fun will bring a lot of people nostalgia.

Summary

When the Nokia 3310 was released, it turned heads and reinforced Nokia’s market share in the phone industry. As well as creating a long-lasting reputation of an indestructible long-lasting phone that will always be remembered.
